Welcome to the Bog

We here at Paw&Claw Ink are delighted to announce the launch of our blog, The Bog! It’s been over a year since Paw&Claw Ink escaped into reality, since then, we’ve grown a lot in many ways, including growing our little two person team to something slightly more substantial. We figured the best opening to our newest endeavour in The Bog would be to introduce those of us you have yet to meet—and some reintroductions for anyone who’s just stumbling across us!

So, let’s meet the team, and dive in to what The Bog means for Paw&Claw Ink and for you!

Mikey

Founder, Publisher & Editor

Hello! For those of you who have absolutely no idea who I am and yet have somehow found us, I’m Michael and I created Paw&Claw in my second year of undergrad then proceeded to do nothing with the idea until my first year of my MA!

My specialty is in writing horror (hence the genre of work we publish), at the moment I’m working on too many longform projects to count but working on this is my main focus outside of finishing my MA and potentially going into a PhD. Outside of all that though, my other interests are in other creative endeavours such as painting, digital art and music! But pretty much all of those always loop back in some way to horror, so I am never truly free of my work.

Lyn

Co-Founder, Publisher & Editor

I’m Lyn, and I added the “Ink”! I adore horror as a genre across mediums, but as a person, I am deeply afraid all of the time…

Primarily, I’d say I’m a fantasy writer, with horror and lit fic as my “secondary” focuses, though everything I write tends to be a mix of all three. Especially considering I’m currently working on a behemoth of a world-building project that my friends and I call Whalefall; I have plans on working it into a novel, a comic, and a videogame. But! I am also planning out a gothic horror novella called Seeney Kills Kids. Outside of Paw&Claw Ink, I work as an editor for a newsletter and a cleaner—which I’ve found oddly influences a number of my short-form projects.

Adam

Blog Editor

Hi everyone! I met Michael on our Masters course, and I annoyed him enough that he took me on as an editor.

The kind of horror I write can be described as liminal, the kind of story that crawls under your skin, it treats horrifying things as standard and expected; the birds have teeth, the deer have five legs, there’s a mimic in your house, and the train has legs. I’m very picky about it, but I do enjoy reading and watching both horror and sci-fi, even better when the two genres are mixed together. I’ve got a lot of projects going on for myself at the moment, but I look forward to editing all the blog submissions!

Lenny

Events

Hi, I’m Lenny! For reasons no one could ever possibly explain, I am here!

I have a confusing relationship with horror in that I find the plots, concepts and designs of most horror media fascinating, yet most horror media I have genuinely engaged with has left me in some way traumatised. I watched the student-made original short Saw film and it made me scared of my own bike (cause the puppet has a trike). I read a bloody mary horror book once and then couldn’t stand in front of a mirror between 11:45pm and 12:10 for a month- just to be safe.

I do, however, love writing, making art, and creating spaces and events that fit a theme, and where lovely people can get together and have a great time. I also love this silly bunch of wonderful creative folk. And thinking about all the clever crazy horror from a safe distance….

The Bog is going to be home to essays, reviews of horror books, movies, videogames (and more!), creative nonfiction and personal essays, and some positively haunting pieces of flash fiction. But not just from the team here at Paw&Claw (though there will be a lot from us, we love to talk); The Bog will be consistenly open to external contributors who want to share their horrific thoughts and their thoughts on horror!
